William Piggin's Watch

Dated: 2022
Taken by: PP

in 2022 Paul Piggin writes: My great grandfather was the coachman for Joseph Bostock and as far as I can tell from census records came to Spondon following his employer from Elvaston. The reason for the Piggins in Spondon (albeit now running out of time - 120 years and counting isn't bad!). I have a pocket watch presented to my great grandfather, William, from Mr Bostock thanking him for 21 years service in 1909 - if I recall correctly. There is a picture on the website of the family standing outside their house on Church Street (next to the former Church Street Stores).

I'm sure the watchmaker and name inside the presentation case have there own interesting stories. Furthermore I noted the worn links on the chain. This was a piece not put away, but worn, perhaps on a daily basis or Sundays. I can feel the history, the connection.
