This is surely not the Vernon Arms, but more likely the Malt Shovel with St Werbugh's Church in the background? There never has been a church at the back of the Vernon Arms to my knowledge. I lived at old 5 Locko Road in the 1960s, and the Vernon was my Dad's local!

I've checked images on the internet, and I think it is more likely to be St Wystan's Church in Repton, and the photograph was taken when they arrived at Repton. Thank you for getting in touch.
