This picture is the back of Sleaford House , 4 Chapel Street I was brought up here, to the left just visible is the Prince of Wales .
The old cottages shown in the other picture have now been demolished to make way for a car park accessed from Sitwell St.
This is a view I know well... From 14 to 16, I worked for Mick Clarke and then Steve Gleason at The Salad Bowl on Sitwell St... next door to Barton’s Butchers. There’s a drive way up the left hand side of the shop that served our store and a couple of flats as I remember.
I think that there was the abattoir for the butchers where the cars are parked that has now been demolished. I remember slaughter days working at the back... not a pleasant sound or smell!
I don’t remember Billy Barton living in the cottage, though I think it was still residential then (c1978).
