About Spondon Historical Society
Spondon Historical Society was formed in 1982 by a group of friends who had attended a local evening class . The Society has met monthly ever since. At these meetings, members have listened to a variety of talks of local and wider historical interest ; discussed issues that affect Spondon; and made visits to local places of interest.
Over the three decades during which the Society has been meeting, it has collected and collated many interesting documents and photographs relating to the history and development of Spondon. This information is made available to members and non-members to see at the Archive Evening, held annually in the Village Hall.
In recent years members have conducted groups around the village for the “Derby Goes Wild” Event; for our own Community Association Village Days; and for other local History Societies and private groups and individuals by request. All those who come on the tours, whether local or from further afield, have been surprised at how much history we have in Spondon.
If joining a society such as the Spondon Historical Society would interest you, why not come along to one of our meetings which are held on the second Monday of each month in the Village Hall from 7.30pm to 9pm. Everyone is welcome.
