I'm sure the teacher was Mr Thompson who taught French but had earlier taught Russian at Spondon Park. I think he had been an interpretor during world war II.

The school was called Spondon Park Grammar when it was built in 1954, hence a house system Bannister, Chataway, Hillary & Tenzing. It merged with Sponson House in the late 60s and then went comprehensive, West Park.

Spondon House and Spondon Park merged and became Spondon Comprehensive in the new 1971 term. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd years attended the lower school - the one with the swimming pool; 4th, 5th and 6th years attended the upper school, which I did until June of 1972 when I left at the age of 16.
